Frattamaggiore
Concorso Europeo
The new roof of the complex is the unifying element of the three planned interventions and, being untied from the underlying form, it softly wraps the whole complex like one of the famous naval rigging produced by the ancient canapificio.
The shape of the plant follows the perimeter of the existing complex, creating a square in the center, with sinuous contours, generating an almost embryonic form. On the outside, the relationship with the existing is much clearer and given by more rigid and regular elements, this to accentuate the sense of protection towards the child, as a reassuring embrace. In the poetic memory of the identity of Frattamaggiore, which needs to recognize itself in the lost tradition of hemp processing for naval use, the point structure of circular steel pillars takes up the long stems of hemp plants to the ramification in a simplified tapered leaf, at the top, given by a system of supports for the cover.
